Dust of Sadness

By Faridoon Shahryar · ₹9.00 · eBook on Writro

[Foreword By Dia Mirza] I have known Faridoon for over a decade. And although our interactions have been about work I have always known Faridoon to be a deeply observant and an empathetic person. Now that I have read this collection of poetry I can see how much he cares and how well he fi nds a way to express the myriad emotions that life makes one feel. Faridoon’s poetry has themes of beauty, melancholy, loneliness, pathos, oppression, nature, solitude and he views them from different angles and in artistic poetic forms. His poems have a depth of thought and expression as well as complexity and maturity. The world is held together with big hearts that love fi ercely and it’s a heart like Faridoon’s that will act as a balm in troubled times. Isn’t this the greatest service a poet’s heart provides? Imagery and metaphors used by Faridoon in his poems are simple and exquisite. ‘Echo of expectations’, ‘Dust of sadness’, ‘Ripples of longing’, ‘Lamp posts of tears’ and ‘A scattered smile’ are a few of the metaphorical gems that I came across in his poetry. Here’s a poem I really liked: A haze of dreams / In an unrelenting night / Envelops the sky of Loneliness / I wonder / If I could see / The starry dust / And look beyond / The horizon of darkness / I wonder if God’s plans / Are favourable to me / For once. / Faridoon, your Abba would be proud. You take his legacy forward in your own authentic, inimitable and generous way. Keep writing! - Dia Mirza]
